WHO Supports Albania in Advancing Hospital Network Reconfiguration

A mission from the WHO Regional Office for Europe visited Albania to support the Ministry of Health and Social Protection in laying the groundwork for the reconfiguration of the country's hospital network. The initiative aims to improve access to high-quality healthcare by better aligning hospital services with population needs, reducing pressure on tertiary hospitals and strengthening the role of regional hospitals.

During the mission, the expert team met with key national institutions and visited regional hospitals in Fier and Elbasan to assess patient pathways, service delivery and hospital organization. WHO will continue supporting Albania throughout this process to help build a more efficient, accessible and people-centred health system.
