From 22 to 26 June 2026, the WHO Regional Office for Europe, in collaboration with the WHO Country Office in Albania, conducted a Health Information System (HIS) assessment mission to evaluate how health data are collected, shared and used to support evidence-informed decision-making.
During the five-day mission, the team met with key national institutions and partners, including the Ministry of Health and Social Protection, the Institute of Public Health, the National Agency for Information Society, the Health Care Insurance Fund, the Health Care Services Operator, INSTAT, the Mother Teresa University Hospital Centre and the University of Medicine. The mission concluded with a stakeholder meeting to discuss preliminary findings, a SWOT analysis and priority actions. The recommendations will help strengthen health data governance, improve digital interoperability, enhance data quality and support more effective planning, monitoring and health policymaking in line with European standards.
