- Portraying resilience and aspiration
Photography has the power to convey the human stories behind the statistical figures of refugees and asylum seekers. Caritas Albania and UNHCR in Albania launched a photography exhibition “The Dreams We Carry” in November 2021 at the National Museum, Tirana. The photographs, taken by Renuar Locaj portrayed the resilience and aspirations of people forced to flee their countries due to conflict, violence, and persecution. “Nobody is safe unless everyone is safe.” – said Mr. Andi Mahila, Deputy Minister, Ministry of Interior during the opening ceremony of the Photography Exhibition.
A Congolese refugee who has found home in Albania shared her experience in Albanian language saying, “I had a very difficult journey. I was pregnant while I arrived in Albania and did not know the language. But I decided to do something - to be strong and to continue my life.”
His Holiness Haji Edmond Brahimaj, on behalf of the InterReligious Council delivered the closing remarks with his profound words. He called for collective effort from all communities to address the plight of the people in need of humanitarian assistance.
