ILO: Access to Labour Justice for all workers in Albania through Amicable Dispute Resolution

Both workers and employers in Albania can benefit from amicable labour dispute resolution in order to settle labour disputes and maintain sound and harmonious relations in the workplace.



The ILO’s Access to Justice in Labour Disputes through Mediation and Conciliation project in Albania, is supporting the government and social partners in Albania to strengthen the amicable labour dispute resolution (ALDR) system and increase access to labour justice for all workers in Albania. The initiative is funded by the Government of Sweden through the Swedish International Development Agency (SIDA).

By the peaceful resolution of labour disputes, collective bargaining and collective agreements, and the development of informed policies on amicable labour dispute resolution, the initiative aims to increase access to justice for all workers, including vulnerable groups of workers.



The project is building the capacity of the government responsible structures and social partners to reach the following goals: to increase recourse to conciliation, mediation or voluntary arbitration for peaceful settlement of labour disputes; to engage more actively in collective bargaining and use collective agreements and workplace procedures to handle grievances at the workplace; be able to devise and implement informed policies in the prevention and peaceful settlement of labour disputes; and, to improve access to labour justice for all workers.



Specific areas of action include technical assistance to increase the effectiveness, outreach and use of the public ALDR system, supporting workers, employers and their organizations to establish effective internal dispute prevention and grievance handling mechanisms, as well as increase application of international labour standards, and enforcement of fundamental principles and rights at work when applying labour legislation. Awareness raising, and training activities have been carried out for labour dispute mediators and conciliators, social partners, government officials and serving and prospective judges on handling labour disputes.
